A Transformational Gift. A Legacy of Hope.
The Jellison family’s personal cancer journey taught them a lot about the challenges patients and families face after a cancer diagnosis. Drawing on their own experiences, they knew that no one should have to face cancer alone or travel elsewhere for care. This is what drove their decision to support Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation’s cancer care campaign.
The Jellison Family Foundation was created by Sarasota residents Brian and Sheila Jellison with their three daughters, Christie Jellison Mucha, Hilary Jellison Simonds and Michelle Jellison. Two of the foundation’s main areas of focus are helping people facing the challenges of cancer and supporting local communities that hold a special meaning to them.
Brian Jellison, the former CEO and chairman of Lakewood Ranch-based Roper Technologies, was an internationally recognized leader and mentor to many. He was a loving husband to his wife of 52 years and a role model for his daughters and their families, including eight grandchildren. When Brian lost his battle with cancer in 2018, the family wanted to not only honor a beloved husband, father and grandfather, they also wanted to give the tremendous gift of hope to people fighting cancer in our community.
In recognition of their $25 million gift, the Cancer Institute is now known as the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute. This includes the oncology tower on the SMH-Sarasota campus, the Radiation Oncology Center at University Parkway and all other future locations and services that are part of the Cancer Institute.
As the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute continues to grow over time, the family is hopeful that their foundation’s support, and their story, will inspire others to step forward with their own gift of hope.
